Where have all the zombies gone?

Sony definitely didn't miss a chance to promote their products through product placements on the trailer for the upcoming fifth installment of Resident Evil. At first, it was one of those ads that get featured before they show you the actual video. Turns out it wasn't an ad and it was part of the actual trailer. The trailer featured Sony products such as the Sony smartphone, a playstation Vita, and a tablet before transitioning into a post-apocalyptic Washington D.C.

Resident Evil: Retribution is scheduled for release in September of 2012 but one thing is missing from the promo poster and trailer. The zombies. I do hope there will be more zombies, especially since the movie will be in 3D.

Another part of the promo is the website for Umbrella Corporation. The site gives you language options, complete with an About Us section, a widget that displays twitter feeds and an employee orientation video even pops up telling you about the Umbrella, what they do, and why you should join the company. If you've been living under a rock and you are not familiar with Resident Evil, you might actually think the website is for an actual legit company. That is until Alice hacks into the website in the middle of the video and tells you not to trust Umbrella. Don't believe Umbrella. They're lying. Don't trust them. Apparently they will have a recruiting tour which will kick off this April starting from Mexico, then moving to France, Spain, Poland, Italy, US and Japan.

So, would you leave your job and join Umbrella? Get recruited here.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt looks different in Looper

Fans of Joseph Gordon-Levitt will find that he looks quite different than usual in his upcoming movie Looper. I've seen quite a few JGL movies (The Lookout, 500 days of Summer, Inception, 50-50) to figure out something looks different when I saw the movie for Looper.

In the movie, time travel hasn't been invented yet, but 30 years later, it would have been.  Loopers are specialized assassins who eliminate targets who get sent back from the future. Until one day, his victim turns out to be his future self.

Bruce Willis plays an older version of JGL and that required making JGL look like Bruce Willis by taking certain key features and altered those as explained by writer/director Rian Johnson.

JGL calls this his most transformative role and one that includes 3 hours of make-up and studying Bruce's films in order to sound like him.

The movie sure sounds like it can be potentially good and will be out in September.  So any favorite time travel movies?

It's more than handsome... it's mansome

Defined by UrbanDictionary.com as an adjective to describe a man who is both manly and hansome, Mansome takes a comedic look at what it takes to be a man in today's day and age.  The movie is scheduled to premiere at this month's Tribeca Film Festival and is produced, written, and directed by Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me).  This a delightfully entertaining doc features candid interviews from Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, Paul Rudd, Zach Galifianakis, and everyday people weighing in on everything from the obsession with facial hair to spa treatments.

"Blue" Movies

The Blue Screen of Death – A last minute deadline’s worst enemy.
As I was waiting for my computer to reboot and go back to its usable state, I suddenly thought about movies that have the word “blue” in the title and was able to come up with a few:

Deep Blue Sea – sharks. LL Cool J. Thomas Jane. The scene where Samuel L. Jackson gets gobbled up by the giant shark in 2 seconds s really priceless.

Blue Valentine – Ryan Gosling. H-O-T. Need I say more?

Into the Blue – Paul Walker and Jessica Alba are two divers who find themselves in deep trouble when they come across an sunken airplane with a large quantity of cocaine

Mickey Blue Eyes – Hugh Grant plays an auctioneer who falls for the daughter of a mafia kingpin. Comedy and chaos ensues.

Blue Crush – hard-core surfer girl Kate Bosworth struggles between love and ambition. The movie is pretty generic, but it does offer beautiful shots of the Hawaiian ocean

A memorial cruise, 3D movie to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Titanic

It’s been a hundred years since the Titanic sank and to commemorate, a 12-night memorial cruise aboard the MS Balmoral will retrace the route of Titanic’s maiden voyage in April 1912.  Passengers can relive the Titanic experience (minus the disaster) while dressed in period costumes, eating meals from the Titanic’s menu, and with music from that era.

Those who can’t join the cruise can go to the theaters to catch the re-formatted version of the movie in 3D.   Watch it again for the nostalgia and for the added “depth”. Director James Cameron made just one teeny change in the movie, after the incessant lobbying of an astrophysicist who said that he noticed in one scene that the left half of the sky was a reflection of the right half. Cameron acknowledged this made the necessary changes.

Movie Update: Warcraft

Rumours have started since 2009 that the fantasy-based computer game World of Warcraft will be made into a movie with Sam Raimi as the director. The game itself already has a big fan base but some fans are questioning whether the movie will do the game justice.

Word is that the script has been completed and that the movie has been given a go signal. The film is slated to be live action, mixing live actors with CGI. No update yet on the cast yet but Liam Neeson and Mila Kunis are reportedly going to have a role in the movie
